As it stands, YSP's friendship scheme has these benefits for any members (quoted directly from their site):
* Personal invitation to Yorkshire Sculpture Park exhibition Private Views
* Free membership to the YSP mailing list
* Discounts on retail and catering purchases at YSP
Yorkshire Sculpture Park has a number of retail outlets and shops offering a wide choice in craft and design as well as home and gardenware, wooden toys, gifts, books and prestige items. Friends are entitled to a special discount of 10% in all YSP retail outlets as well as the YSP restaurant.
* Discount Car Parking
Friends are eligible to purchase a discount car-parking permit for just £25pa, the equivalent of just 8 visits to YSP a year. This covers unlimited car parking in all car parks at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. (Due to limited space at Longside car park, parking here is restricted to Blue Badge Holders only)
* Opportunity to become a volunteer
The Friends of YSP run volunteer schemes, enabling members to become more actively involved at the Park. If you would like to receive more information about becoming a volunteer, please email press-marketing@ysp.co.uk or write to Friends Volunteers, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, Wakefield, WF4 4LG
* Organised events
Friends arrange a full and varied range of organised social activities, group visits, lectures, tours and fundraising events.
* Privileged Information
Friends receive articles, newsletters, behind the scenes stories and news items, providing 'insider' information about the artists, exhibitions, developments and events at YSP.
Having compared these to the membership schemes of other notable galleries, such as the Guggenheim galleries, the MoMa, The national galleries and the Tate galleries. All of which have a fairly similar list of benefits for the scheme.
We have taken into account that the YSP is a registered charity that relies heavily on volunteer work to maintain it's upkeep. Looking at the proportion of where the YSP spends most of its money (using the charity comission website), over just under 75% of the parks funding is spent of charitable activities.
As part of our friends benefit scheme, we would like to encourage volunteer work among the visitors; finding some way of turning what could be considered a chore, into a family activity.
We haven't yet established the benefits of our proposed friendship, but we have at least a starting point to establish an effective scheme.
